Bishop Dr. Sturley Emanuel Brooks & Bishop Leonard Percival McIntosh — the founding fathers of Emanuel's Hope.

A Church Built on Sacrifice & Faith

On March 16, 1981, after almost 12 months of strenuous and blessed ministry, Sturley E. Brooks resigned from the Church of the First Born in East Orange, NJ and began his ministry as Pastor of Emanuel's Hope Baptist Church at a storefront building on Springfield Avenue in East Orange.

His first sermon was based on Luke 9:58 — "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man hath not where to lay His head." Needing to relocate, approximately 15 members found refuge in a fellow minister's church for three years.

On July 13, 1981, the church was incorporated in New Jersey as Emanuel's Hope Unified Freewill Baptist Church, later amended to Emanuel's Hope Baptist Church Inc. in 1985.

With much sacrifice, the church purchased a building at 18-20 Washington Street, Montclair, NJ, making a down payment of $25,000 in November 1984. Federal Tax Exemption was granted in 1988. The church now holds Sunday services at 12 Noon at 73 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042.
